Last November, Donald Trump threatened to send American troops into Nigeria guns are blazing

to, in his words, completely wipe out Islamic terrorists.

He accused the Nigerian authorities of failing to protect Christians,

and he threatened to withhold foreign aid from Africa's most populous nation.

At the time, President Bolotanubu said that characterization of religious intolerance in a country that's largely split between Christians and Muslims did not reflect reality.

And then on Christmas Day, Mr Trump said the United States had launched powerful and deadly strikes against IS militants in northwest Nigeria,

although the Nigerian government insisted it was a joint operation.

Overnight, though, the presidential talk, or at least a presidential social media post,

was all about cooperation. Mr. Trump thanked the Nigerian government for their partnership

after announcing that the two countries had flawlessly executed a joint operation to kill Abu Bilal Al-Minuk,

a man Mr. Trump described as the most active terrorist in the world and the second in command of

the Islamic State Group. This morning, President Tenubu said that early assessments confirmed that

Al-Munuki, who had been declared a specially designated global terrorist by the American government three years ago,

had died in his compound in the Lake Chad Basin.

These Nigerians have been giving their reaction to the operation.

If the US can help us, I see nothing bad there.

It is very good information, and I pray that God will help them to succeed in their

effort to make sure that peace return to this country.
