non-farm payrolls are front and centre. The US economy ended 2025 on a soft note, having added

50,000 jobs in December, down from the downwardly revised November tally of 56,000 and shy of market

expectations between 60 and 73,000. The unemployment rate fell more

than expected to 4.4% from 4.6% the month before, and this was another boost to stocks,

which had already had a pretty good day globally, fueled by hopes this would spur further

interest rate cuts by the Federal Reserve.

And don't forget that traders were also awaiting a potential ruling by the US Supreme Court

on the legality of President Donald Trump's sweeping tariffs.
