Hey there from CNN, I'm David Rind with the five things you need to know for Friday, April 3rd.

Let's start with a major update in the war with Iran.

Three U.S. sources say a U.S. fighter jet has been shot down over Iran, and that search and rescue efforts are underway.

It's not exactly clear where this plane went down, but that video verified by CNN shows

an apparent U.S. military refuel operation over central Iran, possibly as part of a search mission.

Earlier, photos had been circulating online of wreckage that one expert told CNN appeared

to show remnants of an F-15 fighter jet that had a partial logo for U.S. Air Forces in Europe,

which appear on such jets.

CNN's Jim Shuto is in Tel Aviv.

Those pilots, they are trained to do a number of things in the event that they go down.

The first is to evade and if they're captured to escape, but also they have means of signaling U.S. forces

so that they could zero in on their location and take them to safety.

We know that Iranian authorities appear to be looking for the pilots as well,

because on Iranian state TV, we heard the state TV anchor exhorting residents in the area to if they find pilots

to turn them in. Meanwhile, it's part of its 2027 budget request, a largely symbolic wish list

out just this morning, the White House is seeking roughly $1.5 trillion in defense spending.

That would boost military spending to its highest point since World War II.
