Summary

Donald Trump suddenly paused his new tariffs today on all effected countries ... with the notable exception of China. Before the pause, China announced plans to raise tariffs on American imports to 84%. Trump retaliated by raising tariffs on China to 125%. This all came after Vice President JD Vance offended Beijing by referring to “Chinese peasants” in an interview defending US policy. Trying to make sense of all this is Li Yuan, who covers China and its foreign relations for the New York Times. She joins to the program from New York.  Also on today's show: playwright Ryan Calais Cameron; recently detained Canadian actor Jasmine Mooney  Learn more about your ad choices.
