Welcome back again everyone. Lauslah Montgomery with Part Six in our special 10-year anniversary

programma especial covering the visit to China in 1972 of Richard M Nixon and the historic

meetings he had with Mao Zed Dung and Joanne Lai.

We left off last time with Joe and Kissinger putting on their miner's hat and digging deep

into the minutia of the wording of the final

communique that would be signed in February 1972 at the conclusion of the

U.S. presidential visit. On the final day of Kissinger's October trip, the two sides were still performing microsurgery

on the matter of the joint communique.

During the past several days since Kissinger had arrived, the U.S. and Chinese side had enjoyed

little in the way of sleep.

Both Kissinger, Joe, and their respective aides had pulled one all-nighter after another. Still at an impasse.
