Here are some of today's top stories from the Los Angeles Times.

The Trump administration announced sweeping immigration changes over the weekend,

halting all asylum decisions and visa distribution for people traveling on Afghan passports.

According to reporters, the move follows the tragic shooting of two National Guard members here in Washington.

Last Wednesday, a man walked up to the soldiers

and opened fire just blocks from the White House, killing army specialist Sarah Bextrum,

and critically wounding Air Force Staff Sergeant Andrew Wolfe. The suspect is a 29-year-old

Afghan National who once worked with the CIA during the Afghanistan War.

He applied for asylum under the Biden administration.

But his request was granted in April of this year, according to a group assisting Afghan refugees.

In response, the White House says it stopped issuing visas to people from Afghanistan and paused all new

asylum requests for people from any country, in addition to reviewing other legal migrants

already in the country.

It's still unclear how long the freeze will last, but take a listen to what Trump told
