There are incidents in wars which come to be seen as defining moments, moments which have an outsized impact on the narrative

and the outcome of the conflict. So could this be one of them? Iran says it has shot down two

US military jets and F-15 flying over the southwest of the country and a second plane involved

in the rescue mission. There has been no statement as yet from the Pentagon,

but US officials say one member of the F-15 crew was rescued while the fate of the second person is

unclear. The reports from the United States say the second plane was an A-10 whart hog, which came under

fire during the rescue, but whose pilot ejected and was found. It all comes, as Iran has

today reported attacks on a petrochemical plant and another near the Boucher nuclear power plant,

and Iranian missiles and drones have been fired towards Israel, Iraq, Bahrain and Dubai. Well,

we'll discuss the implications of the hunt for the missing American pilot in a moment.

First, though, the BBC's Joe Inwood has been looking at how the incident is being reported inside Iran.

On a rocky, barren hillside, somewhere in the southern Iranian province of Cugillier, dozens of men are running.

The direction is not clear, but their target is quite obvious.

Iranian State TV has just put out this message.

If you capture an enemy pilot and hand them over alive to the military or law enforcement,

you will be given a suitable reward, the newsreader says.

And that call seems to have been answered.

In more footage shared online, a group of men carrying Iranian flags

and armed with a combination of hunting rifles, AK-47s and pistols, walk past the camera.
