It was a little after midnight on a chilly October night in 1970, when a young couple parked their car on a quiet dirt path off Guinea Road in Fairfax County, Virginia. The darkness around them was thick, broken only by the weak glow of the car's interior

light.

They just returned from a football game and pulled over near a relative's house to talk for a moment

before heading in. All around them the night was silent until a sudden rustling in the

bushes broke the stillness. And before they could react, a loud crash rung out as the front

passenger window exploded inward, showering them

with glass. In the blink of an eye, a white figure appeared at the window frame, illuminated

by the car's dome light. The intruder's outfit looked like a bizarre rabbit costume,

a white suit, possibly with long ears.

In his hand, he held a long-handled hatchet,

raised menacingly above his head.

The enraged figure yelled at the young couple, demanding they leave, that they were on private property.

The terrified driver fumbled the car into gear as his fiancée shielded herself from the shattered glass. The car's tires spun on gravel as the

car lunged backward. The man in white then hurled his hatchet with startling force,

sending the young woman screaming as it landed on the floor by her feet.

The engine then roared as the young man stomped on the accelerator, and they sped away

down the dark country road, hearts pounding.

In the rearview mirror, just for an instant, they glimpsed the rabbit-suited figure standing

in the glow of their receding taillights, the night swallowing him up.
