Summary

Life presents us with a paradox - every choice, situation, and relationship comes with both sunshine and shadows. When we resist this fundamental truth, we create unnecessary suffering for ourselves. Drawing from years of coaching experience, I explore why accepting both the upsides and downsides of our choices leads to greater peace and fulfillment. And, as a special FREE bonus, I want to give you my "6 Journal Prompts To Coach Yourself To A Better Life In 6 Days!" These prompts are perfect...

Have you ever noticed that every situation in life has an upside and a downside?

0:15.0

Some people call this the shadow or just the disadvantage of really any situation or choice that you have to make. And I find this

0:23.7

really interesting. I learned from someone years ago that it's great to write an upside downside list,

0:29.3

especially if you're not sure about moving into a new situation, or if you're not sure about

0:34.3

maybe wanting to give something up in your life or go in a new direction.

0:39.2

But what I want to talk about today is the fact that the upside downside is going to be true in any

0:45.7

situation. But I think that we get ourselves into a bit of a kerfuffle when we think there should be

0:53.6

no downside. Maybe things are going really well in certain

0:57.8

life areas, but we focus on the downside and we calculate in our minds that things aren't as good

1:05.4

as they actually are. Okay, so what are some examples here? Maybe you've gotten out of a relationship. And so the upside of

1:15.2

that would be freedom. It's really going to be all about you, at least for a while, how you want to

1:21.0

spend a day, how you want to spend a weekend, not having to check in with anybody. You might say yes to

1:27.2

freedom, but you also might experience

1:30.3

some loneliness. I know this is true too for people who decide to leave jobs and go into their

1:37.4

own full-time businesses. They might not have employees yet or teammates. So they might say yes to

1:42.3

freedom from maybe a nine to five and the structure of that.

1:46.3

But you also might feel lonely, perhaps, at home or working from your co-working space or that

1:53.7

cafe. Or maybe if there's a promotion that you've been working towards or some new big business

2:00.0

goal, on your path to getting there,

2:03.7

you are much busier. You have a lot more going on. Your weekends are full. So you might be welcoming

2:10.2

more in terms of abundance or influence. But yeah, there's going to be perhaps a bit more stress. Maybe it's good by weekends.
