In October of 1987,

23-year-old Alice Hawks was brutally murdered inside the apartment she shared with her boyfriend in Westbrook, Maine.

Her killer left her dying on the bathroom floor, alone, locked the door behind them, and disappeared into the night.

For nearly four decades, Alice's case has remained unsolved.

Since then, I've kept in touch with her family, and the years just dragged on. But now,

after 39 years of unanswered questions, I am thrilled to announce there

has been an arrest. It happened. Stephen Bouchard was finally arrested for Alice's murder.

On Friday, May 8, 26, detectives with the Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit arrested

63-year-old Stephen Bouchard in

Winslow-Main on a murder charge. Stephen was Alice's living boyfriend at the time, and he's

been a suspect since day one in the eyes of Alice's loved ones. Alice's murder was thoroughly

investigated in 1987 by both Maine State Police and Westbrook Police. But despite their efforts,

the case eventually went cold. That changed in 2025 when Main State Police Cold Case Unit

launched a full reinvestigation into Alice's murder. According to investigators, that renewed

effort ultimately led the main attorney general's office to seek a murder charge against

Stephen Bouchard, something that's been a long time coming. During a court appearance just yesterday,

Monday, May 11th, Stephen pleaded not guilty. Prosecutors appeared with a grand jury indictment,

but reportedly haven't turned over the evidence to the defense,

or released a police affidavit detailing the case against him. But I suspect they likely won't be
