ADVERTS DISCLAIMER:

This podcast has ads at the start of every episode. However never in the middle of a story or at the end.

Please be assured all ad blocks have been applied to ensure no over 18 or inappropriate ads are played.

However, there may be the odd occasion where an advert slips through the net because the company submitting them submits them under a category that is not correct. This happens very rarely and I do my upmost to stop this happening.

If this happens, please email me at shortstoriesforkids@gmail.com and let me know the following information: What the ad was for? What state you live in? And what episode you heard it on and I will immediately contact Spreaker to block the ad.

I take this very seriously and I really appreciate your support and co-operation.

As creators, we want your child’s experience to be a pleasurable one. Running adverts is necessary to allow us to operate, but please do consider the premium subscription service as an alternative – it’s ad free.

Welcome back, friends, to short stories for kids.

Up and away.

0:19.0

High in the mountains of Europe lived Anna, a marmot. Marmots are big, furry ground squirrels,

0:26.5

living in burrows dug into the thin soil of the mountainside. It was a quiet life that offered

0:33.3

stunning views across the snow-covered peaks and flower-covered meadows.

0:38.9

All the marmots loved it, not least Anna.

0:43.0

Besides finding enough to eat, marmots have two things to worry about.

0:48.0

Boxes hunting them upon the ground and eagles hunting them from the air.

0:53.5

If either are ever spotted by a marmot, they shout a warning

to the others, allowing them to dive into their burrows for safety. When it was Anna's turn

to keep watch, she was always frustrated by how difficult the job was. It would be better to climb up higher amongst the rocks to give her a good

1:13.7

view across the meadow. But if she did that, she'd be too far from the burrow if she needed to

bearded vultures like to eat bones, so she wasn't in any danger, despite its size. Instead,

1:39.8

she had the time to watch it swooping and circling across the meadow.

1:45.1

That Lamergeier must be able to see everything from up there, she thought.

1:50.3

If I could be that high, then I could see every fox and eagle for miles around.

1:56.6

The problem was, how was she going to get up there? She thought about making herself some wings,

2:03.4

but didn't know where to start. There had to be an answer somewhere. Then, one day, a man came to the

2:11.6

meadow. People rarely came this high up the mountain, but this man came often enough that Anna knew he wasn't

any danger. He would set down his bag, pull out some binoculars, and watch the eyebacks

2:25.2
