September 2009, in the small Mississippi Delta town of Carrie, another day was just beginning.

31-year-old Karita Carroll and her three-year-old daughter,

Jamiya, had been brutally murdered. Someone had entered that home. Someone had taken their lives.

of place where a violent crime doesn't just affect one family.

It affects an entire community.

So when word spread that a young mother and her three-year-old daughter had been found dead inside their home, the shock rippled far beyond the walls of that house.
