photographers in early 20th century Ireland.

An English man by birth he was also one of the most well-known figures in the city of

Waterford where he lived for over four decades.

Yes, in 1928, Arthur Poole disappeared almost without trace.

What was even more unusual was that even though Poole was well known in Waterford,

it would be almost three years before many people in the city even realized he was missing.

The case is all the more perplexing because it shared strange similarities with the disappearance of another person linked to the Poole family two decades earlier.

This podcast shares what is a historical mystery that's been

Today's show looks at the story of Arthur Poole, a man I was only vaguely aware of until I started making a recent episode on the history of photography in Ireland. Then in one of those strange coincidences, while I was making that episode I was in a a pub in Waterford where a picture of Lily Pool, Arthur's wife hangs on the wall.

A short biography of Lily mentioned that she was effectively widowed in 1928 when her husband Arthur disappeared.

Now this left me intrigued.

I went home and started digging into the story that's left me with more questions than answers and it's been

picking away at me ever since. Having reached what seems to be the end of the

line in terms of research in this podcast I'm going to share everything I've discovered with you and I'd love to hear your opinions on this case
