Back in 2018, I covered a decades old unsolved case from the city of Hazard in the mountains

of Eastern Kintucky.

The whole country, about 200 miles away from my home in Louisville.

It's about a three and a half hour drive, and when I finally got there, I met up with

a master trooper with the Kintucky State Police.

Trooper Sims had agreed to show me around the city, which calls itself the Queen City of

the Mountains.

It's a tiny community by Louisville standards, but up in this part of the state with a population

of around 5,000, it's the biggest city around.

A cluster of buildings and houses zigzagging out from a main street, and then slowly disappearing

into a seemingly endless expanse of rolling green mountains on all sides.

It's extremely rural, rough terrain.

You have steep mountains all around you.

Neral, dirt, gravel roadway, creeks.

It's just very, it's a very rough terrain.

Trooper Sims led me out of town, up into the mountains, to a remote hollow about 30 miles
