A motorist became curious when he noticed something in a lay-by on the A464 road east of Schifnell to Wolferhampton. It was 9.30 on a cold winter's morning. In a split-second decision,

the driver decided to pull in to get a closer look. When he explored the undergrowth,

he came to the realization that he was looking at a dead body. It appeared as though a half-hearted attempt was made to cover the remains.

Bushes had been placed to shield some of the body from prying ice.

Whoever had done it hadn't taken the time to thoroughly conceal the victim, who bore the

marks of being badly beaten.

Somebody somewhere knows what happened.

When the police arrived that frosty morning, Saturday, February 2nd, 1991, it would be some time before they learned that the victim was in her early 20s. She had been attacked so severely around

the face that swelling and bruising had disfigured the young

woman's features. The as of yet unidentified female was on the smaller side, standing five

feet tall and weighing approximately eight stone. It was clear whoever had disposed of her body

in the lay-by had no concern for her dignity in life or death.

The bottom half of her body was naked, apart from her feet, which were covered with a pair of pale blue socks.

She was wearing only a bra and a paisley blouse, which was surprising considering the bitter weather.

Investigator supposed that her killer had removed some warmer clothing.

The grass near her body offered a clue as to how it had got there.
