Sarah Bame was last seen alive on July 14, 1994.

She was 14 years old and lived in Rochester Township in

Western Pennsylvania. Although Rochester Township falls within the bounds of the Pittsburgh

metropolitan area, it's thoroughly rural, with a population of less than 3,000 residents. Sarah sometimes

dreamed of escaping Rochester township

because her life in the small town,

as cozy and safe as the place might have seemed,

left certain things to be desired.

And sure, plenty of small-town teenagers

have craved the excitement and novelty

of a new, larger place.

But for Sarah, it was more than that. Her life had been

difficult. Rather than craving excitement, Sarah, who was known for her shy and quiet nature,

as well as her love of animals, craved stability. Unfortunately, it had never been easy to come by

in her home life. Her father struggled with alcohol dependence

and a gambling problem, which had taken an enormous toll on the family. These issues contributed to
