Kyle Brandon Billings, who went by his middle name, Brandon,

was last seen alive on October 6, 2002. He was 18 years old at the time and lived in rural

southwestern Virginia in Grayson County, not far from the small town of Independence.

Independence is located along the New River in southwestern Virginia in the Blue Ridge

Mountains and not far from the North Carolina border. It's the county seat for Grayson County,

which is home to the state's highest mountain peak, Mount Rogers. The town itself is home to about

a thousand people, and in 2002, the population in surrounding Grayson County included the Billings family.

Brandon was the youngest of two children born to his parents, Sherry and Kyle Billings, Sr.
