Kelly Ann Workman was last seen alive on June 30, 1989.

That June Friday began as a summer day like any other for Kelly, who'd grown up in Dogwood,

a tiny, unincorporated community in southern Missouri.

Kelly was 24 years old, and she'd learned the value

of hard work at an early age from her parents, who were dairy farmers. Farming was a family affair,

and Kelly lived and worked on the farm, caring for her family's cattle. That wasn't her only job,

though. Kelly also had a job at a local general store and provided

lawn care and maintenance services for the Dogwood Cemetery. The Dogwood Cemetery sits at the

intersection of State Highway 14 and State Highway Z in Dogwood, across from a field dotted

with clusters of trees, most of them pines.

The cemetery adjoins the Pleasant Ridge Southern Baptist Church, a church that, like the community it serves, is modestly sized.

According to a 1990 article from the Springfield News leader, caring for the cemetery was

a job that had been passed down through generations of Kelly's family,

and it was no small job.
