Bobby Brown was last seen alive in June of 1986.

She was 47 years old at the time and lived in Lake County, Indiana.

Lake County is located in the northwestern most corner of Indiana, bordering Lake Erie.

It's only about a half hours drive outside of Chicago, so it's very much a part of the Chicago metropolitan area.

Although Bobby was originally from far away, Jackson, Mississippi, she'd lived in Lake County for many years.

As a young woman, after completing her undergrad degree at Jackson State University, she'd relocated to Indiana for graduate school. There, she'd received her

master's degree from Indiana University. After graduating, she'd built a career in Lake County as an

educator for the Hammond School District, teaching Elementary School. She'd taught at a few

different Hammond District schools over the years, but at the time of her death, she was a fourth grade

teacher at Columbia Elementary. And Bobby was the kind of teacher that any of us would be happy

for our child to have. She maintained a passion for her job, even after nearly 20 years of teaching.

According to reporting for the Hammond Times, her principal described her as a fine teacher who was always interested in the welfare of the

children. Bobby's concern for student welfare led her to serve as the head of the school safety board

and the kids could tell that Bobby, or Miss Brown, as they knew her, genuinely cared.

As a result, she was a favorite teacher among Columbia Elementary students.

Bobby didn't just build a career as an educator, though. She also built a family.

She had two children, one daughter, and one son. By the time of Bobby's death, her children were adults,
