At the time, the 48-year-old mother of three was going through a period of seismic life changes.

After 27 years of marriage, she was in the midst of a divorce from her husband, Sean.

Jennifer had spent virtually her entire adult life in the marriage, and its dissolution had shifted her world on its axis. By all accounts, the divorce was a contentious one. Sean had

In November of 2013, Jennifer had moved out of their shared home to live with her parents in the

Jennifer stayed with their parents for almost a year,

working at an insurance agency while she attempted to adjust to post-separation life.

And while having the support of her parents was immensely helpful, being so far away from

her children was incredibly difficult. Shortly before her disappearance, Jennifer moved back to State

College in order to be closer to her children. In State College, Jennifer no longer had a home to call

her own. Sean was living in the home they co-owned, and with living together off the table,

she immediately began to search for an apartment.

Meanwhile, she'd sometimes stay with friends for short periods of time.

Other times, she'd stay at motels.

It wasn't an ideal living situation, but it was only supposed to be temporary, and she was closer to her kids, which was what really mattered to her.
