His parents divorced when he was young. After the separation,

Alan's mother Mary had found a new partner named Tom and they lived together on

Buick Road in Gateshead, a town in the north of England. Attending Brickenbeds

Junior High School, the young Alan was described as a

bright boy. He joined the army cadets and had a keen interest in pigeons, enjoying outings on

Saturdays to Newcastle-upon-Tine's Green Market Market to speak with the pigeon breeders who congregated there.

At 11 years old, Alan Graham was a typical pre-teen boy. He endured playing football,

hanging out with his friends, and writing about interesting places he had seen and people he had met,

detailing his thoughts in a little black diary kept in his bedroom at his mother's three-story home.

Alan came from a large family. His siblings were older, and most of them had moved out to start
