Summary

Another look forward to Volume Four and an insight into some of the episodes which take us through European politics after the fall of the Western Roman Empire through to the creation of medieval kingdoms and their Christianisation which led to the Crusades after the Seljuk Turks took control of Jerusalem and introduced a less tolerant religious attitude.

And this is the History of the World Podcast Unscripted. The Hello. Hello everyone welcome once again to another history of the world

0:48.0

podcast unscripted with me Chris Hasler and this is the usual thing that we do between volumes is

0:56.9

publish a weekly episode of unscripted and unrelated stuff so we can just keep in touch with one another.

1:04.6

It's going to be another couple of months before the fourth volume of the

1:08.2

podcast is officially launched. But this week I thought I would go back to introducing one or two spoilers related to the material

2:29.8

before the fall of Constantinople.

2:33.0

So after we've done the the timeline of the Byzantine's,

2:41.0

we're going to go back to European history and that will ultimately

2:45.6

converge with the Crusades. So in getting to that point we have to bring Europe from the fall of the Western Roman Empire

2:56.2

right up until the 11th century. So initially we'll be picking up the story from where we left it in volume 3.

3:05.0

So we saw that Southern Europe was dominated by Gothic peoples and they were the main beneficiaries of the fall of Western Rome,

3:15.0

with the Visigoths taking advantage of their opportunities in Iberia
