and this is the History of the World Podcast Unscripted. scripted. Hello everyone. Welcome to another unscripted episode of the History of the World

Podcast. Another episode just to fill in the gap between volumes, volume 2 on the ancient world is finished, and

volume 3 on the classical world is coming and we're making good progress with the new

volume a lot of material has been written already we're going to be exploring the Persians to begin with,

but in the meantime we're just publishing these unscripted episodes in order to keep the momentum of the podcast going so we like to publish

one podcast a week and while I'm preparing the new volume which does take a bit of time and work

We do want to keep in touch with you the listener

So we're putting out some unscripted episodes.

They're not really meant to be episodes of quality, but we just overview some other subjects

which we wish to have spoken more about during the podcast series proper.

And this week we're going to be looking at one of the pharaohs of Egypt who was well I took a little bit of

criticism from one of my regular listeners Joel McKinnon, who he may not be listening regularly at the moment

just purely because he landed himself a very important job working for NASA of all companies, and he's probably time isn't his own at the moment I

should imagine but he does still keep in touch with the podcast I remember

when I was doing the ancient Egypt episodes. The first profile

episode I did was in relation to Ramesses the second, the very famous and long-serving Pharaoh of Egypt.

And I was criticized for choosing Ramesses the second.

Joel said a better choice would have been Thutmost the third who had glorious victories in

the Levant and a very good reputation where Ramesses was a propagandist and we explored

that in volume two how his escapades at the Battle of Kadesh were not as glorious as he might have led his subjects to believe.

So quite an interesting criticism and one that I thought that I would address more closely this week.
