Summary

On Friday, June 6th, protests broke out in Los Angeles, California, over ICE Raids and the Trump administration's tough-on immigration policies. President Trump has since deployed the National Guard to control what he deemed a chaotic scene in response to the protests. On Tuesday, June 10th, Martha spoke with California Republican gubernatorial candidate Steve Hilton about his concern for the state.  Steve analyzes the reaction of the local authorities in California and the lack of action taken by the state's government officials. He also discusses President Trump's steadfast approach to continue ICE raids despite the call to stop, and the effect of these protests on the Latino community in California. And we're watching these very disturbing scenes since Friday afternoon unfolding on the streets of Los Angeles

in reaction to ice raids and ICE criminal detentions that have been taking place.

So Steve, welcome. Great to have you with us today.

Great to be with you, Martha. I'm joining you from L.A. I've been out on the street seeing it all

1:36.2

with the police and and other authorities just standing back and doing nothing and we see these

1:41.7

scenes of people smashing up the sidewalk to use as weapons

1:46.5

to assault law enforcement and nothing's being done about it. Businesses being looted in the usual

1:53.3

fashion we now see in these kinds of urban riots. The graffiti, Martha, there's something about

1:59.8

the graffiti that I find particularly shocking.

2:03.6

Last night, I walked around the area where earlier in the day you'd seen the main focus of the

2:10.6

protest outside the federal building in downtown Los Angeles. And the scene after the crowds

2:16.6

had dispersed, this was late last night, but the

2:19.9

wreckage of it, every single surface covered in vile, offensive graffiti. I mean, literally

2:27.4

every surface. Bus shelters, the buildings themselves, everywhere you look. You know,
