1:43.6 | which took all kinds of troops and cost the Nazis a lot to go and fight and lose and allowed us to do better on the Western Front. |
1:52.6 | And so you would think that after that war, this group of allies, including us and the Soviet Union and Britain, |
2:03.6 | we would all kind of high-five and be joyous and be thankful and carry on in a cooperative way to solve other world problems. |
2:14.6 | I mean, if we could join hands and join forces to defeat the Nazis, what else can we, what other problems in the world can we handle? |
2:22.6 | That's a big problem. We all handled it together. |
2:25.6 | Instead, that didn't happen. Instead, we ended up at odds with the Soviet Union, we ended up in the Cold War, which was fought in many proxy wars around the world between us and the Soviet Union. |
2:42.6 | But let's talk about how that happens. We can get a better perspective of what's going on with Russia today. |
2:47.6 | We did a couple episodes in the past that kind of helped build up to this moment. We did the one on Joe McCarthy and the Red Scare, the late 40s and early 50s, to kind of set the scene for what it is that people like Joe McCarthy and the real anti-communists that were coming at that time. |
