So, we have just finished Rodney appearing on the dating game and then Cheryl, the Bachelorette,

deciding not to go on a date with him. Fast forward, a little over five months later,

it was Valentine's Day, 1979,

a warm, dry afternoon in Riverside County.

Fifteen-year-old Monique Hoyt was standing by the side of the road,

her thumb out, hoping for a ride.

Hitchhiking, as we know, was super common back then.

Dangerous, yes, but pretty normalised. And so,

when a man pulled over, a man with long dark hair and an expensive camera slung across his

shoulder, Manique thought she'd lucked out. He said he was a photographer, he offered her a lift,

and she got in. At first, he was a photographer, he offered her a lift and she got in.

At first, he was charming, calm, chatty, almost professional.

He told her he took pictures for magazines.

Maybe he could even help her start a modelling portfolio if she was interested.

But before long, the tone shifted.
