Summary

Well - we did it. We hit $2500 a month of funding, so as promised a special 4th of July edition of Riley's Commie Book Club on graduate politics seminar standby - Benedict Anderson's Imagined Communities.  The “nation” is a concept much beloved of reactionaries and dismissed by Marxists as mere ideology. But it has serious psychological power nevertheless. Anderson’s book asks what is a “nation,” where did it come from, and how has the concept been used and misused over time? Riley then applies Anderson’s rubric to understanding the increasingly psychotic trajectory of the Conservative movement in the developed world. *LIVE SHOW ALERT* Come see Trashfuture live at the Edinburgh Fringe! Hello, trash future patrons.

0:02.0

Just wanted to give you a heads up.

0:03.6

We've hit our goal of $2,500 a month, and so from now on, Riley plans to record an extra

0:08.9

commie book club that will release Unlocked on Patreon.

0:11.9

We won't drop it on the feed, but you'll be able to access it for free here.

0:15.6

Thank you so much again for your support.

0:17.4

We absolutely could not do it without you.

0:39.5

Hey, so today we're starting this week's Kami Book Club. This week's, this month's comedy book club a little bit differently with two announcements. Number one, in Riley's

0:45.5

recommendation corner this month is the EP Only the Appraiser by Asthma. That's double A-S-T-H-M-A.

0:54.4

It is the collaboration of two Swedish techno-djays who are at the top of their form,

1:00.7

who've recently played Bergheim, who I am just really, really, really into recently.

1:07.6

So do listen to that.

1:11.0

Secondly, the second track in the E-I, it's called Only the Appraiser. It's very good.

1:16.2

Secondly, thank you everybody for getting the TF Patreon above 2,500 a month.

1:23.8

As a result of that, as promised, next month's Comic Book Club will be a free to everyone episode.

1:31.0

So it will still be released on the Patreon feed, but it will not be behind the paywall.

1:38.6

So, essentially, if you want Comey Book Club in future, it is on the Trash Future Patreon, but not behind a

1:47.5

paywall. So, free Comic Book Club, free episode every month. What's Not to Love? So, with all of the

1:56.9

admin out of the way, with me thanking you all very much for believing in our dumb little

2:02.7

project here. I'm going to get to it because I'm talking today about a book that is

2:10.0

relatively unconventional. I'd say, and if you wanted to relate this to another comic book club,

2:16.1

I'd say this is most
