If you heard the free version of Part 1 on Nov 11, the interview continues at 28:50. In Part 2 of the interview, Norman X Finkelstein previews his new book, "I'll Burn That Bridge When I Get to It," which unleashes his fiery analysis on identity politics and President Obama. To write it, he first had to do some mandatory reading from the experts in those fields. “I felt in order to write [the book],” Norm tells us, already exasperated, “I should sit down and read this new leftist cancel culture. So I sat down, I read Ta-Nehisi Coates, I read Kimberley Crenshaw, I read Ibram X Kendi, I read Robin DiAngelo, and it’s impossible not to conclude that this stuff is intellectually vacuous and worthless.” But it isn’t meaningless in today’s politics. Far from it: “My conclusion was that identity politics is fundamentally a weapon of the Democratic party to derail, deflect, and diffuse a radical class-based politics.” Norm, a classical scholar who understands Left history like the back of his hand, shares proof of his analysis when he quotes Leon Trotsky, who “talked about all these people who pretend to be radical, but when a moment of truth comes, you see their real colors.” “I felt that moment of truth came with the Bernie Sanders campaign. Crenshaw, Coates, Angela Davis, all these people went out and started to attack Bernie Sanders. They all, in the moment of truth, backed the Democratic party establishment and sought to derail and discredit the Bernie Sanders candidacy.” He goes on, even more fired up here, to take down the one politician who is so brazen to flaunt that he won an election by standing for nothing, the “hollow vessel” known as Barack Obama. Norm’s taking no prisoners, and you’re not going to want to miss it. It’s Part 2 of Norm Finkelstein on Useful Idiots. Check it out. Learn more about your ad choices. Welcome to Useful Idiots. I'm Katie Helper. I'm Aaron Matek. Now, happy Thanksgiving. By the time

0:17.1

that you've seen this, you'll already have celebrated that very problematic holiday. So, happy

0:21.1

Thanksgiving. And this week we are not going to be doing the four food groups that we usually do,

0:28.7

but we're not going to leave you unsatisfied customers because we really care about our useful

0:34.1

idiots community. Luckily, Norman Finkelstein is as prolific a speaker as he is a scholar. So,

0:40.6

we have an extended interview with him that we recorded two weeks ago, but we have not yet released.

0:47.2

All right, without further ado, this is Norman Finkelstein, our bonus interview with him. And

0:51.7

Norman is the author of the forthcoming book, All Burn That Bridge When I Get To It.

Welcome, Norman. So excited to have you back on. Well, thank you for having me. I've always

1:06.4

happened beyond the Katie and Aaron show. We're Aaron and Katie. I know, I know which is

1:11.0

definitely Katie and Aaron if we're going to be calling it that. Yeah, this is Useful Idiots,

1:15.0

but we love having you on this show and of course on the Katie Helper Show. And let's just start

1:19.3

talking about the biggest news, which is the midterms. What are your thoughts? Any thoughts

1:24.2

reflections on that? Well, I do have a reflection. I always like to admit to my fallibility.

1:29.8

I did think it would be much worse because of the inflation. The inflation is so out of control

1:36.0

and so, in my opinion, underplayed in the news for a ordinary person like myself doesn't have a

substantial or significant income. I would say in the last year for ordinary things he purchased

in the supermarket, the inflation was 50 to 100 percent. Some items doubled. You know,

1:58.1

bag of pretzels, which was 99 cents is now $1.99. And some things went from 50 cents to a dollar.

2:07.5

Now, I'm of course significantly older than the both of you. I have no recollection at all
