Summary

YO! Our public episode this week got FUBAR'd due to some scheduling problems but that makes this a perfect opportunity to release something from our patreon feed by POPULAR demand. I (Jake) made this a while back after playing the video game Disco Elysium and people seemed to like it. If you hate this and want us to get back to calling Barack Obama "cheugy" or whatever don't worry, we'll be back to that next week. Here's the original description: ---------------------------------------------------------- That's right, we're youtube video essayists now. Not really, there's no video, you don't have to watch me dressed up like Evrart Claire or whatever for an hour during this, it's just a podcast. I (Jake) played Disco Elysium recently and decided I wanted to make something to process its rich marxist themes and whatnot so here we are. That said, MASSIVE SPOILER WARNING, if you have not played this video game and think you might want to at some point, you may not want to listen to this, as the whole plot is dissected. If you're a Disco E freak or you're just curious though, enjoy. MUSIC: British Sea Power - Disco Elysium OST

That is a joke about Bread

0:21.3

Tube. Bread Tube being a YouTube subculture that consists of nerds who like to make videos

0:29.7

about pop cultural things that they've consumed while talking robotically like this underneath

0:37.4

the video or fast, like this, the video or fast like this about how Rick and Morty

0:42.0

is actually about mm all right and okay so we're all familiar with the premise

0:45.7

now I will not be doing that because I think what's going on in the form of

0:50.9

those videos at least is that those people are reading off of a script they wrote,

0:55.3

which is all fine and dandy. However, I'm a comedian. I talk off the dome and have my information

1:02.3

stored in my head. So this is sound a little bit more like our podcast, except there's only me

1:08.1

today. Um, I decided to do this though because I played this video game recently and it's rife with meaning and I've been wanting to write something or put something out.

1:24.6

I've been meaning to process this game and I figured this was a good format for it.

1:31.8

So right up front, I feel like I should explain that I'm going to spoil the game, the plot,

1:39.4

and if you haven't played the video game Disco Elysium, you might not want to listen to this.

1:45.3

You might, it doesn't really matter, in my opinion. I don't think the video game Disco Elysium, you might not want to listen to this. You might,

1:49.5

it doesn't really matter, in my opinion. I don't think the game is incredibly spoilable in its plot, because I don't think the plot is the point. We'll get into that. But if you're somebody

1:54.8

who feels that way, you probably should skip it. That's also why I put this up on On our Patreon as supplementary material, this is sort of an experiment.

2:03.9

If this is a huge pain of the ass and people don't like this because they, you know, have not consumed the media.

2:10.2

I don't know.

2:11.3

Tell us.

2:12.0

And maybe we'll stop doing stuff like this.
