I really wanted to mention just now,

before he like cut it off

the role the prisons play in all of this.

Because I've been thinking a lot about prisons lately

and the role that they serve in capitalism,

specifically to, you know know as a pool for this reserve army of

labor the surplus population and it serves to both keep them from

causing trouble and just warehouses them until such time as capital needs

more workers.

That's a huge part of the picture yeah and it's like a lot cheaper to you know I mean

who said that

like the idea of like it's you know employee one half of the working class to like beat up the other

half was Gould the railroad tycoon in the 19th century.

Yeah so it's like it's just a lot cheaper to have a punitive state, right, than to have a welfare state. And so it totally makes sense that in the U. dispends like an incredibly small portion of its

income on welfare programs and where those programs are so heavily means tested as like part of the history of the racism of this country that the main way they deal with people who don't have work and were poor

is to like subject them to intense police scrutiny

and threat of death and then of course

to police murder and then to like throw them in this massive in prison. I mean it's a really terrible and

dark story. And it's been going on for a while now and

thankfully we saw, I think, I'm not sure if we call it a rebellion or an

insurrection, but you know, let's not forget a few months ago we saw the the

social tender we saw things light a flame and it seems like it's died off now but
