Take it away, Patrick.

So I'll start off with a little bit of a rant pre versus post increment so I got into a discussion with people at work and for a long time I have always just done

0:33.7

so the biggest example is in a four loop in the final variable change parameter the normal one

0:42.2

you do is an increment plus plus and so i do uh i plus plus or whatever so for i equals zero i is

0:50.6

less than 10 i plus plus that's just always done it this way this way and if I put an increment on a line by itself

0:57.8

I do the plus plus like it just reads more naturally to me like this variable you're taking the variable and you're incrementing it you're not

1:06.0

incrementing something that you're going to read later so and then of course if of course, if you put it in line with other stuff, I actually tend to try to

1:14.4

avoid that, like, in a statement because I actually find, like, I will do it occasionally,

1:19.9

but I find it to be a more cognitive load.

1:22.9

So I'd rather either have it be a post increment so that it just happens at the end and it's like

1:29.0

I put it on another line or do it on a separate line all by itself.

1:32.4

And so someone pointed out to me one of my code reviews that I was doing post increment

1:36.6

and that the quote unquote standard we were using was pre increment.

1:40.8

And I said, nah, uh, that's not true.

1:43.1

And so then I went through all over,

1:44.7

like I, you know, wrote a grep command to grep through all of our code. And sure enough,

1:49.2

except for just a couple small other cases from other people, every one of the team had been doing

1:53.9

pre-increment except me. And all the code checked in that was post-increment, every single one of
