This sermon's text today is coming from Romans chapter 6 verse 1 through 7.

Romans 6 verses 1 through 7. What shall we say then? Are we to continue in sin that grace might increase? May

it never be? How shall we who died to sin may it into Christ Jesus have been baptized into his death.

Therefore, we have been buried with him through baptism into death in order that as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the father, so we too might walk in newness of life.

For if we have become united with him in the likeness of his death, certainly we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection.

Knowing this, that our old self was crucified with him, that our body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves

to sin. For he who has died is freed from sin. SIN. Lord, we will take up this morning now one of the most glorious themes in all the world and that is union between the believer and the Lord.

And I ask Father for help in making much of this great truth because it is great to be unified with the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords and the Creator of the

universe and the Redeemer of our souls is the greatest thing in the world.

And so I ask that you would grant us an appropriate seriousness and attentiveness and openness and

understanding and faith and humility to understand and embrace what is in verse

five.

Father, I ask that you would unite people to Christ in this room who are not yet saved. There was that wonderful passage at the end of this book where Paul said of Andronicus and

you Junius, they were in Christ before I was. That was simply the way of talking about

being a Christian in those days.

They were in Christ before I was.

They were saved before Paul was saved.

And I pray that by your power you would put people into Christ this morning, who have not yet been united to Christ.

I ask this in his powerful name and for his glory. Amen.

Last week we dealt with verses 3 and 4 here in chapter 6 and talked about baptism in particular and what it meant.

And today I want to look at verse 5 alone and draw out the theme that is in it from other parts of the

New Testament. This is a tremendously relevant teaching and a relevant portion for everything in your life and you can see that relevance in several ways.
