So if there is any encouragement in Christ, any comfort from love,

any participation in the Spirit, any affection and sympathy,

complete my joy by being of the same mind, having the same love,

being in full accord and of one mind.

This is a pretty clear call to unity in the church that we're seeing

in Philippians chapter 2, verses 1 and 2.

part of me is tempted to read this whole passage down to verse 11

because the way Paul appeals to unity is not by saying,

you guys need to agree about every single thing you think.

Like good luck with that, all kinds of people,

all kinds of Christians have all kinds of ideas about all kinds of different

things, opinions, preferences, even convictions that are not

clearly spelled out in the Bible, but the picture of unity here,

being in full accord and of one mind revolves around Jesus.

Now you keep reading on, you see one of the most

awesome pictures of Jesus anywhere in the Bible from Philippians

chapter 2, verse 5 through 11 of his humanity and his deity and his

love and his sacrifice and humility and his exaltation.

Jesus is the one who unites us in the church.
