Here's your midday brief for Monday, April 27th. I'm Alex O'Sullough for the Wall Street Journal.

United Airlines is ending its attempt to buy American Airlines since American refused to negotiate.

United CEO Scott Kirby says the deal is now off the table. There was a lot of backlash to a potential merger.

Lawmakers raised concerns that the tie-up could harm travelers, while

industry officials said it would likely have faced major pushback from federal antitrust regulators.

Both companies' stocks were down in morning trading. OpenAI and Microsoft have reached a new deal

giving the startup more freedom to partner with Microsoft's rivals. The revised agreement allows

OpenAI to sell its products across any cloud provider

and caps the amount of revenue it must share with Microsoft through 2030.

Microsoft, meanwhile, will keep its access to the startup's models and products.

And China has banned META's acquisition of AI startup Manus on national security grounds.

A Chinese commission ordered that the $2.5 billion deal be unwound.

Meta says the transaction was legal and anticipates an appropriate resolution.

The decision reflects Beijing's attempts to keep valuable intellectual property from leaving the country.

Manus is a Singapore startup with Chinese origins.
