Summary

In a world that is moving at warp speed, it’s easy to forget that kids are still kids. Their needs haven’t changed: they need time to explore and experiment with the real world around them, to absorb life through all their senses, to process their thoughts at their own pace. All of these are crucial in laying a firm foundation for higher learning, but this TAKES TIME.   Listen in for some encouragement to take a simple, unhurried approach when it comes to our kids' education! (This short episode is only 11 minutes, please share with a friend!) Hey moms. Welcome to this episode of the Dorenda Wilson podcast. I am Dorenda, and I am married to

0:18.0

Daryl. I have been married to him for 32, and we have eight kids, ages 17 to 31.

We have five boys and three girls.

We also have our ninth grandbaby on the way.

So we are pretty excited about that.

We've been homeschooling from the beginning.

0:35.1

And so we've been at this for a long time. Seven of our eight kids are

0:39.9

graduated. And it has been one of the single best decisions my husband and I ever made. We say that

0:48.9

all the time. We are loving the fruit of building a strong family life. One of the things that we really tried to

0:57.0

focus on as we were homeschooling our kids was that school would revolve around home life, not home life around school. So we really

1:07.5

wanted to take a more natural, unhurried approach to learning, especially in those

1:14.7

early years. And, you know, it's funny because my husband wasn't fully on board to start with.

1:20.6

He was hesitant, would probably be a better way to put it. He wasn't sure what that was going to look like and how that

1:30.1

was going to benefit our kids, but I had a strong gut feeling that I really didn't want to

1:35.4

rush our kids into schoolwork. I wanted them to be able to take, like I said, a natural,

1:41.7

more unhurried approach. And so he wasn't sure about it, but he was

1:48.1

very supportive. He said, go ahead, you know, listen to your gut, do what you feel led to do.

1:54.0

Now he is the biggest fan of unhurried homeschooling. He talks to parents all the time about why it's so important to slow down.

2:05.8

Well, fast forward several years into our homeschooling journey, about 20 years into our homeschooling

2:12.5

journey. And my husband suggested that I should write a book. And I thought he was kidding. I actually laughed

2:19.4

because I thought, I thought he was just joking around with me. And I said, what in the world would

2:23.9

I write a book on? He said, you should write a book on homeschooling. And I was like, what? Aren't there
