Hey, moms, when you're in trouble or feeling overwhelmed, who is the first person you turn to?

The Israelites had a habit of going to anyone but God, and it's tempting for us to do the same. Listen in as we're reminded

to resist the urge to go back to Egypt. Welcome to my devotional grace for a mom's heart. In the

weeks ahead, I'll be reading from my devotional, Unhurried Grace for a Mom's Heart, 31 days in God's Word. Each devotional is less than 10 minutes long. I'll start by reading a short scripture passage and then share some thoughts from my own heart as is written in my devotional. I'll ask some questions at the end to help you dig deeper and then we will end in prayer. This week's devotional is

titled, Don't Go Back to Egypt. We're going to start by reading from Isaiah 30 versus 1 through 5.

What sorrow awaits my rebellious children, says the Lord, you make plans that are contrary to mine. You make alliances

not directed by my spirit, thus piling up your sins. For without consulting me, you have gone down to

Egypt for help. You have put your trust in Pharaoh's protection. You have tried to hide in his shade. But by trusting Pharaoh,

you will be humiliated, and by depending on him, you will be disgraced. For though his power extends

to Zoan and his officials have arrived in Haynes, all who trust in him will be ashamed. He will not help you. Instead, he will disgrace you.

Chapter 31 verses 1 through 3. What sorrow awaits for those who look to Egypt for help?

Trusting in their horses, chariots and charioteers, and depending on the strength of human armies,

instead of looking to the Lord, the Holy One of Israel. In his wisdom, the Lord will send

great disaster. He will not change his mind. He will rise against the wicked and against their

helpers. For these Egyptians are mere humans, not God. Their horses

are puny flesh, not mighty spirits. When the Lord raises his fist against them, those who help

will stumble. And those being helped will fall. They will all fall down and die together. And then chapter 48

verses 17 to 20. This is what the Lord says, your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel. I am the Lord

your God who teaches you what is good for you and leads you along the paths you should follow.

Oh, that you had listened to my commands, then you would have had peace flowing like a gentle

river and righteousness rolling over you like waves in the sea. Your descendants would have been

like the sands along the seashore, too many to count.
