Summary

In its most basic form, Radical Candor is a framework to facilitate communication that is kind, clear, specific and sincere. It’s about being able to Care Personally and Challenge Directly at the same time. While this kind of communication is always important for building trust and maintaining relationships, it’s even more important during a crisis when anxieties are heightened and everything is uncertain. Kim, Jason and Amy unpack how to Challenge Directly during a crisis without losing your humanity. Go to www.radicalcandor.com/podcast/challenging-during-a-crisis for comprehensive show notes. Humanity. That's a lot of radical candor. I feel like do I need less radical candor?

it would be a good idea to spend a little bit of time talking about what radical candor is and

1:19.0

1:26.9

It's caring personally and challenging directly at the same time.

1:31.2

It's love and truth at the same time. You don't have to choose. You can do both.

1:35.8

So what maybe a good way to explain what it is is also to explain what it isn't.

1:40.9

So sometimes we challenge directly and we forget to show that we care personally.

1:45.8

And that is obnoxious aggression, which is not radical candor. And very often when we realize

1:51.3

we've acted that way, when we realize we've been a jerk, rather than moving the right way on the

1:57.1

care personally dimension of radical candor, we go the wrong way on challenge directly.

2:02.0

And we wind up in the worst place of all, manipulative insincerity. And this is where passive

2:07.5

aggressive behavior, political behavior, toxic workplace, backstabbing behavior happens. And it's

2:14.4

fun to tell stories about obnoxious aggression and manipulative insincerity.
