and she has overcome a whole lot. As a child, she endured years of abuse. At 17, she escaped her home when her family joined a cult.

At 21, May's mother died, leaving her to raise her younger brother. Later, her daughter was born

with severe heart defects that prompted a move to the United States for medical reasons.

But as you hear May's story, you're going to sense the hope that

she has even in life's hardest moments. My name is May, and I was born in Mexico. And my story starts,

my mom haven't been able to have babies. And so the story goes that she had to try four years and

countless doctor visits,

et cetera, et cetera, when she finally was able to conceive me.

And then we thought it was going to be a blissful and pretty childhood.

And it was for the most part.

And then she got remarried.

And at nine years old, I started going to what was the most terrifying and literally,

I used to feel that I was living in hell season of my life. From ages 9 to 12, I was

systematically abused by my stepfather. Now, mind you, one of the most difficult things to wrap

your head around this story is that all the while this was happening behind doors in my home,

we were still coming to church every Sunday. And I believe that even when I was living through

the biggest hell of my life, the fact that my

little ears were in church every Sunday listening to the Word of God somehow gave me some

hope that one day my life was going to be better.

I don't understand how is it possible that there are people that can do

wicked things, even when they're hearing the truth of the Word of God. But I know that through
