This got to be the most heartbreaking day in the history of the job market.

On today's podcast, we're starting with an historic jobs number.

This morning, the U.S. Labor Department reported that 20 and a half million jobs

were lost in April. The unemployment rate jumped from around 4% to 14.7%. 14.7. This is the highest

unemployment rate since the Great Depression when the US hit its all-time high at

24.9% in 1933.

Since then, there have been only a few other jumps

as dramatic and as heartbreaking in the 1982 recession.
