bereaved families forum. It's a network of Israelis and Palestinians who've lost loved ones

on both sides of the crisis between their peoples. I spoke with them on November 14, 2006,

at a restorative justice conference in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. This interview is included in our

That happened to me three weeks ago. In San Francisco. There's this extraordinary hip-hop

singer called Michael Franty. Very tall with dreadlocks. He came to Israel and he'd been to

to Iraq beforehand. He came to my house and not why was there Palestinian.

Oh, they were a new travel to it. A lot. Yes. He sat on the floor. It was the middle of

Wintonia, right with no shoes. Of course, they allowed him immediately. He invited us to come

to San Francisco. We came to San Francisco and there were only people. It was like 60,000 people

in the Golden Gate Park. We got on the stage and of course it's not the sort of music that I

know anything about anyway, but I suddenly started to really like the music because it starts

coming up through your legs when you're standing up on the stage and I listen to the words.

Because half the time I can't actually understand what they're saying. Yeah, the words are poetry.

Yes. And what Franty was singing about was so poignant and so strong.

And then I sit another. They never going to listen to us. You know, not a chance.

I mean, they were all jumping up and down, you know, waving their arms and everything. And

then he said to them who we were. And they just all sat down like 60,000 people sat down on the

grass. Were they young? Most of them. Young and old sort of ex hippies. And the weirdest looking

people, you know, I thought I'd seen it all, but but I liked that one thing because it was so
