If we really want to develop a hunger for the feast of God's Word, it starts with, before we even open our Bibles, let's open our hearts.

Wendy Speake is joining us today on Focus on the Family and your host is Focus President and author Jim Daly. Thanks for joining us. I'm John Fuller.

John, today we're going to talk about something we may not think a lot about, feasting and not just like Thanksgiving kind of feast or Christmas feast, but feasting on the Word.

And I love that metaphor, I guess, because we should be doing that. I think sometimes we're anemic, if I could say it that way. We don't feast enough on the Word of the Lord and then allow it to penetrate us and put it into play, right?

To see our own story in God's Word. And that's what we want to talk about today. You know, John, just to set this up for the listeners and the viewers, focus. We've got five core areas that we're trying to connect with you on.

Evangelism and discipleship, which is like today's program, marriage and parenting, advocating for children. That's our option, ultrasound effort and foster care effort.

And then engaging the culture, how do we engage the culture, win some way in an way that promotes the gospel and promotes God's truth, even in the face of resistance.

So those are the things we're always trying to bring you here on the broadcast. And today we're going to talk about the journey of being a follower of Christ.

And Wendy Speake is an author. She's a speaker. She's really passionate about coupling God's Word with testimony with life and connecting God's Word to your life.

She has a great book that will be covering some of the content today. It's called The Forty-Day Feast, Taste and See the Goodness of God's Word.

You know, John, as we kick off here and before I introduce our welcome Wendy in with scripture, here's a great example where if we only read the Word, but we don't do the Word, we're in a bit of a trouble, I believe, with the Lord.

Because in James 123, 24, it says, for if anyone is a hero of the Word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks intently at his natural face in a mirror.

He looks at himself and goes away and at once forgets what he was like. What a description.

So in other words, the way you know you're rooted in Christ and doing his work is when you're doing his work.

Not just looking like you do the work. So I think that's a good reminder as we kick off today. Wendy, welcome in.
