I told the story of John and Betty Stam, who were great models to me as a child, as a young

I had met Betty Scott Stam when she was just Betty Scott, when I was only four years

old, four or five years old, I think she came to our house on her way to China as a missionary.

I remember hearing when I was eight years old how Betty and John had been captured by

That made a very deep impression on my eight-year-old mind of what discipleship is about.

And then years later, I came across the biography of John and Betty Stam, called The Triumph

of John and Betty Stam, written by Geraldine Taylor, and I read you some of that story.

Now I want to give you another more recent example of a couple who did it right.

I had this letter and I thought what could be more appropriate since it's very difficult

for people to believe that a woman my age can possibly sympathize with people of younger
