0:04.2	I'm joined today with Jason Lyons, of course, and our special guest is Ladd-Sir-Wat. I hope I got your last name right, Ladd. I'm praying. Yeah, Sirwatt. That's very good. All right. Awesome. Thank God. How they're worrying about that for a week. It's great to have you here. Really appreciate it. Lad is an extremely accomplished analyst dealing with predominantly Africa.

0:35.2	Really, I mean, where to begin, right?
0:38.4	Like, there's, you know, Africa is a vast continent of different things happening all the time.
0:45.1	Um, I guess let's start off with like what's been going on with, uh, the U.S. recently striking, um,
0:53.3	alleged jihadist camps and stuff like that in Nigeria.
0:58.1	You know, what's your take on that?
1:00.4	Like, what's your sense on what's going on and what's going to happen afterwards with it?
1:07.4	Yeah, it's certainly one that I've been following for a while.
1:11.8	Back in September, we saw a number of U.S. politicians, including President Trump, start
1:19.5	discussing high levels of Christian targeting in Nigeria, and that started sort of a snowball
1:27.2	effect of more and more people talking about this.
1:32.8	And I think the challenge is that Nigeria does have high levels of religious violence, but
1:41.5	the figures of 100,000 or 50,000 Christian fatalities is really not supported by the data.
1:50.0	I mean, 100,000 fatalities is more than the total number of fatalities in Nigeria from militants, from soldiers, from all civilians combined since
2:03.6	the insurgency really escalated in 2009.
2:07.6	You know, I think it's important to be accurate with the concerns to understand the conflict
2:15.6	well in order to know, you know, what is driving religious violence in Nigeria?
2:20.3	Where is it happening? Which groups are carrying it out?
