Why is a duck in my podcast? I hear you say. Well, I need your help. We live in a water stressed area and this can affect our local environment, even in the winter. By making small everyday changes, you can save water and money of your bills. So leave your heating on a constant low temperature to protect pipes from freezing, stopping leaks and tire water use. Good morning and welcome to the Independent Republic of Mike Graham right here on Talk TV.

0:42.1

Well, what a day it was yesterday, the news that broke just before 10 o'clock yesterday morning

0:46.9

that Nick and the Sturgeon was due to step down as First Minister of Scotland,

0:51.1

1:04.4

as all the big resignation stories do in politics, it would seem. Coming up later on, we're going

1:09.2

to talk to Alex Salmon, the former leader of the SMP, the former sort of, you might say, mentor of Nicholas Sturgeon, the man who

1:15.8

kind of brought her into politics, trained her up to be the leader when he stepped down in 2014.

1:20.9

She now, unfortunately, though, is not in the same position because she's looking down the

1:25.1

barrel of a sort of abyss, if you like,

1:28.4

because there's nobody really in place to succeed her.

1:31.4

She's going to step down as leader of the SNP.

1:33.5

And here's what I'm going to say straight up.

1:35.2

I think the SNP is in a pretty poor position

1:37.9

because independence now is out the window.

1:39.9

She hasn't been able to get any more people to believe in independence

1:42.7

than there were in 2014.

1:45.0

The figures are more or less exactly the same, so if they did have a referendum again today, basically, it would be, no, we don't want to leave the Union.
