Big news from Big Pharma.

Last week, drug company Eli Lilly announced it will release a generic form of its brand-name insulin. The list price of the new

generic drug will be $137 per vial. That's half the list price of its brand-name version, Humelog.

The move comes following years of panic and outrage over the

escalating price of insulin, on which diabetics rely for daily symptom management. Insulin was first

discovered as a treatment for diabetic patients more than 100 years ago. When Eli Lilly first

introduced its brand name version of the drug in the mid-90s. A vial cost only $21. Today,

the list price of a single vial is about $300. The sky-high prices have led one in four patients
