It happens to most of us, forgetting where you place your keys, or the name of your third grade teacher, or what pants you wore last Thursday.

Neurologists will tell you that there's nothing extraordinary about these lapses.

Our brains are finite.

They simply can't retain all the information

they absorb. So every day, we wake up with one less imprint of the past. The loss often goes

unnoticed, that is, until something triggers our memory, and we find that only a trace remains.

But what about the big stuff, the traumatic events, the things that we did over a sustained period of our lives,

with the people closest to us? Forgetting them doesn't happen to most of us. It turns out some things like the name of our best friends, the fun things we did in college, the hurt we caused others, these things stick with us forever.

Forgetting them could be a red flag, or worse, a symptom.

The million dollar question is, a symptom of what?
