I'm your host, Jason Staples. Today on the podcast, we're going to talk about the selection committee, the college football playoff selection committee and their recent decisions, and we will critique them. And we'll also address some misunderstandings about the process that the selection committee is engaged in. First things first, it seems like

there's a major misunderstanding out there that Jeff, that Jeff Long and the college football

playoff committee are using an ESPN metric called game control, something that ESPN has introduced,

more or less they started publicizing it this year. I think I remember

seeing it last year a little bit. But that's absolutely not the case. The playoff committee does not

use outside metrics, whether from ESPN or anybody else. This confusion was caused in large measure

by Jeff Long's phrasing when he said after the rankings were released on Monday that when he was asked why Florida State was third, he referenced essentially the eyeball test.

He basically said, well, you know, when we compared them, we were, you know, we pay attention not just to record, but to who you beat and the, you know, the context of the game and whether you control the game or not,
