You talk about the inclusion and exclusion narrative of democracy.

Can you briefly, I know there's a lot, each one of these issues, you deal with at such

link that's hard to summarize it here, but try.

The inclusion narrative, I think, was part of the genius of the American Revolution

that it included more people than it had ever been included before in determining their

own destiny in the political apparatus.

The exclusion narrative, side by side with that inclusion narrative, was that more were

also excluded from the beginning.

We know we were not granted the right to vote until the early 20th century, African

Americans still after the Civil War.

Native Americans often were just simply pushed to the west against their will.

We know the ways in which immigrants historically were always stereotyped and often granted no

access to the polls, only to find later the next generation, those stereotyped immigrants

turning around and stereotyping the next generation of immigrants.

So ours is that as every human story is, it manifests some good by virtue of the fact

that God has made us in his image and some deep and profound brokenness because of the

human condition.
