Summary

After weeks on the River of Doubt, Theodore Roosevelt’s expedition is on the verge of collapse. But hope emerges when they find clues that Brazilian frontiersmen may be living and working in the wilderness nearby. As Roosevelt’s health deteriorates, drastic measures must be taken to fight the infection in his leg. The men must race to return the former president to civilization before illness and starvation claim his life.

0:26.5	As he opens his eyes, the canvas walls of his tent slowly come into focus.
0:33.5	He feels the humid air of the Amazon warming his skin like a blanket.
0:39.5	Foggy memories from the last 24 hours begin to take shape in his mind.
0:45.5	He remembers that he's been fighting malaria and that a deadly fever has been overwhelming him.
0:51.5	He reaches down and feels a bandage on his leg. He recalls that an infection from a bad cut has been sapping his strength.
1:01.5	But he's awake now and he's grateful to be alive.
1:05.5	Roosevelt turns to see his son Kermit standing by his cot, smiling down at him.
1:11.5	The fever must have broken.
1:14.5	That's right, son. I'll be back to my old self soon enough. Kermit smiles.
1:19.5	But behind it, Roosevelt can see he's still worried. Kermit kneels next to him.
1:26.5	So there's good news. We scouted up ahead. The waters are much calmer. No more white water for a while anyway.
1:35.5	Good. We can be off again this morning.
1:38.5	Roosevelt feels a wave of relief wash over him.
1:41.5	The past several days have been brutal for the expedition. At long last, the going will get easier.
1:50.5	But Kermit's smile begins to fade. There's something he's not saying.
1:55.5	Before Roosevelt can ask, the tent flap opens and Dr. Kajieira enters.
2:01.5	Feeling better, I see. A little worse for where. But ready to get back in the saddle.
2:07.5	The doctor gives Roosevelt a quick examination, checking his temperature and inspecting the infection in his leg.
2:15.5	Your fever is breaking, but your leg is looking much worse than yesterday.
