0:02.0	got sad back in 2009 I had published a paper in the journal of Social
0:10.9	Psychology with a my co-author Trippat Gill, who used to be my former doctoral student.
0:18.7	The title of the paper was, Self- Ratings of Physical Attractiveness in a competitive context when males are more sensitive to
0:25.7	self perceptions than females.
0:28.1	And I'll put the link to the paper in the description of this clip. And in the paper what we were basically looking at is
0:37.2	how self-perceptions of one's physical ratings might affect how they play in a behavioral economic game.
0:48.1	Specifically, some of you may have heard of the ultimatum game.
0:52.2	The ultimatum game is where you bring in two people to the lab,
0:55.7	persons A and B, you give, let's say, person A, $10 and you tell them you can offer to split this
1:02.1	money with person B in any way that you want.
1:04.8	Person B has two choices. They can either accept your split or if they reject it
1:10.0	you both get nothing. So what do you want to do as a split so for example if
1:14.8	person A says I'll keep six and I'll give four to person B if person B accepts it
1:20.1	then you give them their respective splits if person B B says, no, I don't want that,
1:24.0	then they both get nothing.
1:25.3	There's no opportunity to negotiate.
1:27.5	And so we were interested in looking
1:29.6	at how the physical attractiveness of the two players, both their objective physical
1:35.0	attractiveness as rated by a third person and their self-perceptions of their
1:39.6	physical attractiveness might affect how they play in this game. So I've always been
1:45.0	interested in this idea of how do people you know how calibrated are people about
